Absolutely stunning solid, tight grained, old growth redwood green-winged teal pair by Frank Willis (Redwood City, CA). Willis decoys do not come available often and when they do, they are promptly acquired by the savvy California collector. Frank Willis carved early working decoys in the 1940s. His work is well documented page 374 of Wildfowl Decoys of California as well as the great article in Decoy Magazine (July/August 2009) by Paul Mazzilli. His decorative work is among the pinnacle in design and paint. This pair signed and dated 1975 clearly demonstrates the makers superior talents. Each measures approximately 12” in length. There is an old repair to the raised primary feathers on the drake and a tiny chip to the end of one of the hens tail feathers.
